I don’t know where the time went. It seems like I just brought you home from the hospital with your brown eyes looking up at me like you had been waiting to meet me. My only child. Now you will be 18 in a month. You have a job, friends of your own, opinions of your own and the time is going so fast I feel like I can’t keep up with it. It was just you and me against the world for a while and even though I mey my husband and you have a step-father those times of just you and me getting by, holding onto each other, both crying, were some of the best. People in the grocery store laughing when you were three and in the grocery cart singing, "when you’re happy and you know it clap your hands", out loud form the basket. And all of my illnesses, you were a nurse so many times with all the weird things I got. Even missing school and thus having massive homework to help me be well and unafraid. You are kind. From the day I carried you into our tiny studio with a hide-a-bed and a borrowed crib to today. They say you should not think about what others can do for you but you have enriched my life more than any single person I know. You have shown me what it means to let someone know you care at just the right time. You have taught me how not to back down. You have shown me what it means to choose your friends wisely. You have shown me what love really is and how to give it back. I never thought you would turn eighteen. We raised each other and there is no way I can tell you the tears that you will be a capeable adult in what feels like has only been a few minutes. It’s as if I blinked and you are here, grown. I love you so much. I always have (I brought you hame from the hospital in a tiny outfit, yellow with ducks, a little too big for you because you wanted to see the world early) and I always will because a parents love reaches across forever. Thank you for everything. I love you, Christopher.
